the snake sounds like he's in there for temp control what type of cage.what type of heat heating pad maybe to hot.cage may be to breezy.temps are'nt consistant if aqarium is heating pad to large if light heated.light to hot or not hot enough but it sounds like the water bowl is a sense of comfort to him for one reason or another.also maybe belly got burned on heating pad or maybe a old shed is stuck on him without seeing him and setup its hard to say. I jope I helped a little.Let me know what you find .Unless his belly got burned or sheds stuck.I would say its deffinetly temp realated.Oh OH what type of substrate are you using is it cyprus or pine some cyprus I have found small very small bugs in it.hard to see with naked eye.I would stay with paper towels or news paper alsopine and certainly I I have seen this behavior in snakes that were kept in ceder to long. How is the body weight?

Hmm... what problems have you had? Only one that I've seen is when snakes drag their food thru the shavings then swallow it.

I don't feed my snakes in their cages... so that problem isn't mine.
