Trying to figure out how to import...

nechushtan Apr 19, 2004 01:19 AM

I'm in the process of trying to figure out if it would be cost effective to import a single snake from Belgium to the U.S... The cost of the snake is comparable to U.S. specimens when they are rarely available but there are no U.S. specimens to be found. So if anyone knows what is the process and what are the extra costs for importing from Europe? Thanks in advance.

It is not financially feasible to import a single animal unless it is a one of a kind animal. The basic breakdown on importation cost are below. This is just the basic prices, there is alot of paperwork to be filled out and the importer is responsible for all legalities of the shipment and liable for any problems that occur from the importation of the shipment.

USF&W Import/Export License $50
Brokers Fee $150-$250 Per shipment
Freight: usually $400 minimum depending on the carrier.
USFW inspection $55-$115 per shipment.
US Customs $25 per shipment.
Depending on if you reside close to a port of entry the shipment will have to be freight forwarded to your location which will cost more usually around $100+ depending on the size of the box.

We get in baby B.Dendrophila from Indonesia from time to time but are nto specifically importing them from any breeders. There are a few breeders here in the US that have them available from time to time.

Hi, You might try Great Valley Serpentarium. I maintained B. dendrophilia for a while an the adult male I had was just to much of a handful. I shipped him off to Bill and assume he is doing great.

p.s. their website lists that they do have them...
