Pothos plants are safe for reptiles. I have one growing now for when I get a chameleon.

If you look at my set up (a few posts down) the plants in it are real. They are called air plants because they do not need any soil. You can glue them anywhere you want. That way you don't have to worry about pesticides, bug infestations (not pretty, I had one with a live plant), and other unwanted stuff. Also you only have to soak them at the most once a week. This way they do not increase the humidity level in your enclosure, which could cause viral infections... The only thing is they are hard to find, mainly because if they were not in my set up they wouldn't look very nice. They don't grow much bigger than the ones in my picture, so they won't take over your set-up.

If you deside to go with other plants here are some things to think about, if you haven't already

You don't want to increase the humidity.
You need a plant that is not toxic.
Make sure it has not been treated with any sort of pesticide.
You will also need a uv light for live plants.

Here is an awsome website for vivarium set-ups, they have some info on plants that can go in terrariums as well. You just need to find plants that don't need much humidity.

Hope this helped,

When i had my leo colony, i decided one day to tear the entire setup down, and re- set it up with live plants. I used smooth succulants that could thrive in low humidity environments. So, first i put down a layer of cactus potting soil (about 3 1/2inches). on top of that, i laid down a layer of prefilter media for fishtanks. This is actually just a thin blue pad that was used as the non-chemical filter in an industrial sump. (unused and clean of course). This layer was there to prevent the soil and the sterile reptile sand from mixing. (I am particular with aestetics). Then, i added the plants and layered on the reptile sand. It was beautiful. I went to bed that night feeling like i had created a work of art in my leopard gecko enclosure.
When i woke up the next morning, 3 of my 6 females had laid eggs. But only after completely tearing apart my work and digging to the botton ot the tank. I had to tear it down once again, find the eggs for the incubator, and then buy brand new reptile sand. There is a moral in this somewhere, i think....

I use without any problem, hoya and pothos. UV light are not necessary if your set up is in a sunny room (without a direct access to sunlight!!! it will be way to hot for your gecko). Hoya and pothos are resistant plant that are safe. Sometimes i even have to cut a bit my plant cause they grow very well in enclosure ,lol. I water them once in a week or so, humidity is not really a problem if your enclosure is well vented.
