Question on eggs?!

jesseter Apr 19, 2004 06:54 AM

You see I have a male albino(Las Vegas) and a female het.(Las Vegas) for albino. Now I know that some of the eggs she will lay will be albino's. Last year she laid two eggs that hatched. Both were normals. She just laid her sixth clutch this morning. The clutch this morning has one fertile and what looks like an infertile egg. I have two hatchlings right now from her third clutch. Also both normal. Her first two clutches this year were infertile. I know this may be a bit premature with four to six eggs in the incubator. But I was wondering about the viability of albino hatchling eggs? Is it possible that the potential albino hatchling eggs are infertile? Any information is much appreciated!! Thanks all!!!!!!!!!!!

albinos should be just as viable as normals...are you absolutely sure that the female is in fact het and not just a normal?

I was told that she was a het. when I bought her. I guess I have to believe that she is. It's that or think that somebody lied to me. I like to prefer to believe in people than the alternative. My wife was telling me the whole probability and statistic thing. You know if there is a 1 in 4 chance that a hatchling is going to be an albino it doesn't mean that it is so. I could go 100 eggs before getting an albino. I just hope she is wrong!! Thanks for responding !!!!!!!!!!!

It is possible that she could lay quite a few eggs without having any albinos...but its highly unlikely. Also, when breeding 2 hets the chance is 1/4...however you have a het and an albino...so 1/2 of the babies should be albino! I would say after 10 or so normal babies with no albinos...I'd start questioning whether she's actually het or not...
