having a littlte trouble............maybe someone can help

blapython77 Apr 19, 2004 07:28 AM

I recently built an open air rack system. since i have moved my snakes into it, i have been having a problem with stuck sheds and incomplete shedding. temps= 94 day and 85 night on hot spot and 85 day 80 night ambient temps. water is of course provided and hides also. aspen bedding is the substrate. this baffles me because in 15 years of keeping balls i have had pretty good luck with good sheds. i will post pic of rack below.

thanks in advance and happy herping

it could be so open that it does not retain the humidity which is needed to shed, so could either put in humidity boxes when a snake is going to shed,or what i found effective with large open air racks is to fit pieces of perspex or sticky back plastic type materials to about one third of the grated tops

I was having the same problem with my Freedom Breeders, so i just bought a humidifier and put it in my "ball room". Its easier to fill the humidifier once a day than to constantly hand shed a colony of balls. Best wishes, Mark

I have the same problem whenever I have tried to use aspen for snakes that like/need high humidity, so I use newspaper or cypress.
