2 Questions - Breeding and eye problem

ohiorabbit Apr 19, 2004 10:49 AM

1. Is it okay to keep a young male and female pair together, or will they try to breed too early? They are both maybe 4 or 5 inches long. They like sleeping together in their little cave, and when one comes out, so does the other one. It seems like they enjoy each other's company, but I don't want the female to get hurt by breeding too soon.

2. The female doesn't seem to like opening one of her eyes. I have had her since last Thursday, and she didn't have a problem until now. I tried putting some warm water on a cotton ball and gently holding it over the eye to loosen it up, as you would with baby rabbits whose eyes are stuck. It seemed to help, as she started opening it for a few seconds at a time and then closing it again. It doesn't really look swelled or discolored. What should I do?

Thank you for any help!

my only guess would be that there might be something in it...but I don't think anyone but a vet could really tell you for sure. I would recommend having a vet check her out

It looks better today. I think whatever what was in it came off. I still wonder about the male/female thing...

Thank you for answering!

They WILL breed to early if kept together...I would highly recommend separating them as soon as possible to avoid any problems with either of them.
