Carpet Python Enclosure

Jaggers Apr 19, 2004 11:09 AM

Here is an enclosure I built for my 3 year old female. She is 6 1/2 feet long. The outer dimensions are 7' tall by 3' wide by 2' deep. The snakes living dimensions are 3' tall by 3' wide by 2' deep. All the lights are on timers. The camera is pretty bad, but you get the idea.

What kind of wood is that and what does the top look like? Also does it hold heat and humidity well? How do you heat it?

jaggers Apr 20, 2004 10:36 AM

The hood contains heat lamps, white for day and green for night. The hood can be lifted off. Screen goes across the top of the cage and the hood sits on that.

It holds heat very well. The wood is pine covered in polyurethane. I have 80 to 100% humidity where I live so the humidity is always high enough.

Are the lights the only heat sorce you have on the enclosure? I'm just curious since I'm thinking about what type of enclosure I want to house my JCP in in the future. She is only 4 foot right now. Does your have hiding places on the ground? My JCP is alwaying hiding in her boxes. Thanks.

The lights are the only source of heat. The wood is an excellent insulator so the temp is easy to control with the potentiometers that I wired in.

My snake stays almost exclusively in the trees. She stays maybe one day out of fifty on the ground.

Hope this helps.
