Behavoir question...

Mayo Apr 19, 2004 12:00 PM

I think I read the answer on here before, but wanted to check.

Our adult girl used to hide/sleep in her hides all day and come out and roam at night. For the last month she will sleep anywhere during the day, right out in the open. I believe someone said something about this months ago, that when they become accustomed to where they are and feel safe they will do this. Is this correct? Or could there be some problem?

Matt

Matt, all of my adult geckos snooze out in the open during the day, and I like to think it is because they feel safe and secure in their environment!

I have mine for about three week now. He's hiding most of the time, of course i'm not there in the middle of the night to check him. I'm not sure if i should handle him right now or leave him alone until he feel safe and secure to spend more time out ?

I would start introducing my hand in the enclosure by laying it on the bottom, palm up, and holding it still for a little while several times a day. Then, you can slowly move it towards your gecko until it feels comfortable. After a few days, you can try handle it! Just make sure you do not come down with your hand over it's head or it will think you are a preditor. Patience is the best way to tame your gecko.
