Baby dragons-need some hints on care

Langly2112 Apr 19, 2004 03:14 PM

Hi

My dragons decided to make baby dragons and I need some helpful hints on taking care of the babies-as mine weren't tiny babies when I got them. I got past the fisrt step hatching the eggs-
, which seemed like a very long time - longer than any snakes I've hatched out.

They are eating very small dusted crickets (I offered greens but they didn't seem interested) and I set them up-seperately-each to it's own enclosure-but next to each other so they can see each other. (not sure if that's important but the adults seem to like it) I set up the enclosures about the same as the parent's-just on smaller scale.

Thank you ahead of time

Well, let's see..... babies should be kept on paper towels or newspaper, not sand. They like the basking spots a little warmer than adults, up to 115 degrees. They eat a LOT more crickets, like 50-100 a day EACH. They need all this extra protien to grow, so plan on buying your crickets in bulk for a while. They need the calcium dust daily, instead of 3 or so times a week like adults. Keep offering greens, they'll eat more crickets than greens, but eventually they'll take to the greens too. Spray them w/ water daily and soak them once or twice a week so they stay hydrated.

Hmm, that's all I can think of off the top of my head. I don't breed dragons but I have an adult and I'm raising a baby right now. Maybe some of the experienced breeders can come in here and give some tips that I haven't thought of.

If you have trouble finding homes for them use the classified section here at kingsnake.com. Please don't sell them to a pet store if you can avoid it.

I hope you seperated mommy and daddy now, otherwise you will have more babies, and more babies, and MORE babies!!!! Mommy dragon needs a break too!

thank you I'll have to change the bedding. So far only 3 have hatched. I wanted to be prepared for anymore-there are 4 eggs unhatched. Now I know a few things I didn't.

Excellent. Thank you again.

As far finding home-that doesn't seem to be a problem as I've had offers on them already-wow. Not to worry.

Mom and Dad are seperated for quite some time now even before she laid eggs. I hadn't planned on putting them back together since they didn't seem to get along very well-well enough to breed but not well enough to live together.
