Scott's Sphagnum Peat Moss

BuffaloTortoise Apr 19, 2004 03:17 PM

Hi Everyone,

I'm putting together a humid hide for my torts, and was wondering what people use in theirs? I bought some Scott's Sphagnum Peat Moss today---there is no inidication of any additives, and it says that it's a 100% natural soil supplement.

I just want to make sure that if they injest any by accident or our of curiosity, they won't be harmed.

What brands/bases do you all use for your humid hides?

Best, and Thanks,

Tony

Hi,

Does anyone have any thoughts on sphagnum peat moss for a humid hide?

And what's the difference between sphagnum moss, peat moss, and sphagnum peat moss??

Best, and Thanks,

Tony

I may be wrong, but I think sphagnum moss is the actual moss, and peat moss is the decayed or broken down version? Anyway, peat moss is more like dirt or compost. I think either would be fine for a humid hide, but the peat moss is probably messier (although nice for digging). You could always mix the two.

Hope this helps.
