fire belly trouble

morganna Apr 19, 2004 03:30 PM

ok, i just got a new fire belly toad. i have 2 now- 1 green one (oriental) and 1 brown one (european) i just got the brown one. they are in a half water half land thing, and they have been croaking A LOT. just now, the green one was like, mounting the brown one, in the water. i think i know what they were trying to do (please dont explain that) but, is that, like, normal? the 2 kinds? the poor brown one is 1/2 the size of the green one (who was aggressing) and should i seperate them so he doesnt get hurt? or am i just a worry wart?

I suspect that the smaller of the two is your new addition? It is most likely a jeuvinile and will grow with time. The agressive behavior is common when adding a new toad after one has been solitary for a while. It is possibly mating behavior, and although it is unlikely that one will "hurt" the other, the stress of this repeated ordeal might not be good for the toads health. After a few days they should become fairly comfortable with one another, jsut make sure that the smaller one receives ample food.

Well I use to have two and one of the two died. they were from the same original tank. I bough tanother one and put him in the tank. They fight occationaly but as far as i know it's normal for them to do that. Sort of there way of trying to asert dominace. I've also heard another theory that they are so hard to tell male from female that they don't even know sometimes.
