Will Monkey Pox effect uro prices???

mike3 Jun 14, 2003 04:45 PM

Hi I was watching the news today and they were talking about monkey pox. They said that they might stop all of Africa's exotic animal exports from comming into the United States until they get the monkey pox under conrol. Since most uros are from Africa will this make the uro prices go even higher? How much higher would WC and CB uros be if all exports from Africa are stoped??

Monkey pox is mammalian, not reptilian, so I don't think it should affect importation of reptiles. I do think it will affect the importation of mammals from Africa. Personal opinion, we really don't need any more African diseases here or anywhere else. Vigilance and knowledge is the answer. Many (not all) importers are around to make the "quick buck". No quarantine in their facilities, no real observation of their new imports, just get 'im in, ship 'im out. Then we look at mortality rates...

Don't be surprised if the functionally illiterate people from HSUS and PETA try and use Monkey Pox in protest to prevent reptile exports as well. They already use salmonella as a reason in their effort to prevent people from keeping reptiles as pets or for breeding. I do agree there needs to be stricter regulations in place for exporters.
