My Beardie

Haphazard Apr 19, 2004 05:45 PM

Hi, i have a beardie that i addopted last year. He is in a 30 gallon tank right now and is a little more than a foot long, maybe 14 or 15 inches. he tends to bob his head in the manly way at his reflection then runs up to it and rubs his nose. he wont stop until i take him out of the tank then he will stop for about 10 minutes after he goes back in and then starts up again. his nose is turning a dark brown. and if he doesnt rub for a few days, it turns regular. how can i force him to stop?

Sounds like it's time for a bigger enclosure. Adult beardies need about 6 square feet of ground space to be comfortable. You didn't mention his age, but at a foot long I'm thinking he has outgrown that 30 gallon. He's probably feeling cramped and confined and wants out.

Agreed with the other response. He needs a bigger cage / tank. You can also cover the sides with paper to cut down on glare and reflection. That way he won't think another male has moved into his territory.
