Mixing Species.... actually...

more like mixing suborders...

I've been contemplating mixing red eyes with Giant Madagascan Day Geckos (having similar requirements to those of the frogs). However, the biggest difference is ofcourse that the frogs are nocturnal whereas the geckos are diurnal. I would use a red night light for viewing purposes, but of course during the day the frog would be living in the same conditions as the geckos.

However, the tank would be high, and the bottom well-planted with areas for hiding. Would this be okay for a tree frog? I don't mean "okay" as "can he survive." Rather, if there is enough cover, could this be a healthy environment for a red eye? Would the light at the top of the cage (compact fluos for full spectrum and a puck lamp for heat) affect the poor guy? Thanks for any input.

Interesting question! Anyone who has read some of my posts on this forum knows I have & continue to keep mixed species of frogs in the same enclosure. I have never thought about mixing my frogs with other non-anurans. I have a pair of grandis as well, and I don't know that even I would risk mixing these. My female grandis is a ...uh..."witch" with a capital B (you get the point). She's very active & likes to explore everything & she will annoy anything she finds! I think this would really disturb a retf. I also keep my retf at a higher humidity level than my grandis. I really don't have the answer, but it is an interesting question. I am sure you will get many "interesting" responses!
