tiny cage?

Hi. I have a little northern red-bellied snake... about 8 inches that won't grow much. I want to make a small cage to take him to college. Any ideas on how small I can make the cage without sacrificing too much of the snakes comfort? I would probably use some 1/2 thick oak and plastic for windows. Thanks
