over-basking?

ubermental Apr 19, 2004 07:58 PM

can an aquatic turtle over-bask? ya know, heat himself too much without going back in the water? If, so, how long is too long and should you make him go back in the water?

I'm not too sure about how much is too much, but I've seen Painted Turtles and RES bask from around 11 am to around 7 pm in the wild. In captivity, I try and give my baskers atleast 4 or 5 hours.
