How Many Hatchlings per Cage?

bcwatson101 Apr 19, 2004 09:37 PM

My 20 Dragon eggs should be hatching in a couple of weeks. I was planning on using some spare 10 and 15 galloon aquariums that I have. Does anyone have a recomendation on how many dragons per cage is best to prevent nipping as much as possible? Thanks!
Brian

As few as possible. 3-5 per cage and you should be alright, just feed heavy.

If your only going to be using 10 gal tanks, I would suggest no more than 5 per tank. Generally speaking, they don't start nipping at each other till around 3 weeks of age. Even then some clutches just don't nip. I only ever get nips from one particular female's babies. Always the same, year after year UGH!
I use 20 gallon long tanks here, they are 12 x 30 and I house a max of 10 (Sometimes I may have to house a couple more than that, but try not to)

Also, if your using such small tanks, you may want to split the basking light between two tanks to help you and your temperature gradient. Not much space for a good gradient in a 10 gal.
