will shipping a breeding pair mess up there schedule?

Snakebyt Apr 19, 2004 09:48 PM

I am getting a pair of germans tommorow, the female has laid 1 clutch this season, and is suspected of being gravid again. will shipping them and changing there caging etc. throw there breeding off? should i still expect a couple of clutches of eggs from the pair?

Well, this subject is not really rock solid yet. Some people will tell you that it will affect them, but I feel that it will just seem like a cloudy day to them or something and if the female is experienced, she should still produce another clutch. Once she starts to produce it, there is really no turning back.

it does put stress on the animal and if they are already gravid it could effect them but I have no proof. There are a lot of imported animals that come into the country gravid and they have a ton of babies.

Usually not, but I would be concerned about the stress and possible parasite flare ups.

why would stress cause a parasite flare up? if she is parasite free to begin with, then she will not have parasiteproblems unless somthing is introduced to them. I do understand that she will be more suceptable to them if she is exposed to them, but shouldnt have any problems with that

Sorry to tell you this, but....... NO beardie is 100% parasite free. They all live with some parasites, cociddia, etc. It is the stress, etc that makes these bloom and reach the point where medication is needed.
