When defrosting rats, I usually "renew" the hot water several times during defrosting. The cold mouse/rat causes the water to cool down, so you need to add hotter water every few monutes til the job is done. An easier method is to defrost the mouse in the fridge for overnight/all day, like you would defrost a steak. Just make sure your family members are notified first!

LOL I didt that once and my wife wanted to kill me. Maybe I should I have told he first. I guess she lost her appetite after seeing a thawing rat in a platic bag next to dinner. I now just use the hot water method.
