losing woma eggs please help..........

lateralis Apr 19, 2004 10:29 PM

My female woma laid 12 eggs 10 days ago. 3 were small and soon went bad. One had a water spot the day it was laid and stayed good for 1 week then died. I carefully removed it from the clutch and now have discovered that its neighbor is also on its way out. All remaining eggs appear fertile as well but Im wondering if they can handle the bacteria load created by this newly deceased egg. It would be difficult to get this egg out its in the middle of the clutch. Any Woma breeders please help, I dont want to lose any more eggs if it is possible.
I know they could be shelled but infertile, would they take so long to show this?
If it is the environment than I would appreciate any corrections. My setup is as follows: moistened large grade vermiculite 80% relative humidity at between 87 and 89 degrees, eggs are in perforated container placed inside a modified hovabator. I have 2 other eggs from this clutch set up on perlite with the same RH and temps.
I keep a small water bottle in the incubator to spray substrate with. If anyone has experienced this and changed incubation methods with succesful results please advise!

Generally fertile eggs can grow just fine next to moulded dead eggs. I have had fertile eggs that had fungus growing on them hatch just fine. I don't have any womas, but I don't think this is a species specific thing. Nonfertile eggs can last for a while and then rot. Any fertile eggs should be fine, so I wouldn't mess with them too much.
Good luck,
