pernads Apr 19, 2004 11:08 PM

Just tonite i noticed this around his lips. I can only notice it when he is sleeping. He is 4 and 1/2 month ambanja, and has been eating and drinking well. very well. Could this be frm eating crickets and there poity legs puntured his lip?? Sorry I had to post so many times, I dont know how to post multiple pictures.

It looks like it may be a little swollen. It could indeed lead to an infection, or may already be one.

I would start swabbing it immediately with a q-tip dipped in
hydrogen peroxide or chlorhexadine solution. Swab the lips and the area between the lips and gums. Have you looked in his mouth? Some minor mouth infecions can be resolved with aggressive cleaning, but if you let it go it could get very bad in a hurry.

good luck.

You could also give him a favorite food by hand and look closely at the gum as he's chewing. An infection will look redder than the rest of the gum and you might even see some sign of cheesy stuff (caseous matter) lying near a small sore. Will he gape at you? If so, take a good look in his mouth for any other discolored patches too. If he is eating and drinking OK it may not be anything. Cleaning it daily for a week may be a good idea. If he stops eating you'll need to have a vet check him.

well tonite he is sleeping in the open and it looks totally fine. i just took this picture and i dont see any of it. i did notice that below his lip started showing an orange color today. Within the last week he has been showing alot more colors, and has been growing a ton. I have a feeling he is going to be a huge panther.
