mealworms....questions.......

lilroach56 Apr 20, 2004 02:11 PM

Hey. My leo lexy is currently eating around 150 mealworms every two weeks. AT $4 per 50 it is getting to be a rip off. And i am planning on geting 3-4 more leos this summer. After doing some math i figured out she is going through around 325 mealies every month. Can someone answer questions about mealworm suppliers and care?

1)which supplier do you recomend (amount, quality, price, customer service, etc)?
2)how much does shipping cost per shipment?
3)How long can mealworms stay alive in the fridge?
4)what do you use to sift for mealies?
5)what is a good (high calcium) gutload for mealies besides flukers high-calcium gutload?

1)which supplier do you recomend (amount, quality, price, customer service, etc)?
I use Grubco.com, great prices, awesome service. I used to use wormman...but didnt like their service at all...and they just upped their prices.

2)how much does shipping cost per shipment?
Depends on the purchase. Normally very cheap.

3)How long can mealworms stay alive in the fridge?
Not quite sure...but ive had some in the fridge for well over a month now, and they're all just fine. Be sure to gutload well before putting them in there.

4)what do you use to sift for mealies?
I use the top of a 10g tank, works very well...and the mealies cant escape

5)what is a good (high calcium) gutload for mealies besides flukers high-calcium gutload?
I just use potato slices for moisture, wheat bran sprinkled with Rep Cal and Herptivite, some carrot slices, various greens, apples, pears, etc.

1)which supplier do you recomend (amount, quality, price, customer service, etc)?
Ya, i use grubco.com too. Its likt 5 bucks for 1000

2)how much does shipping cost per shipment?
Usually, like $5.
3)How long can mealworms stay alive in the fridge?
I keep em out, so they can do their thing, but I've had them in a fridge for maybe 2 months

4)what do you use to sift for mealies?
I use a strainer. The gutload goes through, the mealies dont.

5)what is a good (high calcium) gutload for mealies besides flukers high-calcium gutload?
I make my own gutload basically using everyone elses', and putting in what I can find around the house. I also put in a good amount of calcium powder. I use poataotes, carrots, apples, celery, whatever I can find around the house, and change it every 3rd day or so.
