Frogs eating Mice?

Frogger1985 Apr 20, 2004 02:26 PM

I have read a few messages on here about ACFs eating pinkie mice. Is it okay for them to eat that? If so, how many and how often can they eat them?

Thanks

That is a bad idea. I have had african clawed frogs for nearly 6 years and meat, although good from time to time, can really amount to a lot of weight. Mice is very fatty. It should only be a treat. I feed my frogs just about anything, but mostly crickets to keep their weight down. I have noticed it becomes more of a problem when they get older. You should only offer them mice maybe once a week. Everyday and your frog will be expecting health problems in the near future.

Instead of mice, try offering pieces of chicken, pork, or beef that has been cooked with no herbs / seasonings or an excess of salt. My frogs particularly like raw salmon or catfish. Soaking it in vitamins enhances the value of nutrition.
