Can I switch fromCrickets to Worms

nerfherder Apr 20, 2004 04:21 PM

I have a 4 yr old beardie, I am getting so sick of keeping crickets....they seem to die in 2 weeks and they smell. Can I feed him only greens and superworms? If not I am wondering where people keep there beardies and supplies so that they cannot smell the crickets? Any ideas? Help? Thanks!

If your crickets stink and are dieing, they probably need more ventilation. Get yourself one of the big clear rubbermaids and leave the lid off. They can't climb the sides and they can't jump that high. Other than that, sure you could switch to worms or even pellet.

So you think it would be okay to not give crickets at all? Just exchange them for worms or pellets? Do you use pellets, and if so what kind?

I mainly use pellets for my dragons. I like the Repcal Juvie ones and I give them to all my dragons no matter what age. I do still give some live bugs/worms but mainly as treats and don't forget the salad. There are some tricks on the Repcal site that will help you get him to switch over.

I don't feed crickets at all here. My dragons get salads and Rep cal daily and they get mealies and silkworms every few days.

Silkworms would be a good alternative.
