It depends on the age and what species it is to know whether it's even possible without probing. Some are sexually dimorphic with age, others are much more difficult to tell. Some have indicators like hemipenal bulges or pronounced femoral pores. For some, those same indicators are meaningless. Do you know the species?

Most Uros are pretty tough...I once asked someone who had owned them and bred them for a long time the same thing and they said:

"some people can make good guesses but any guess is a good one when it's 50/50"

so is it easy to tell male from femall with red uros

If they are old enough, you should be able to tell from the belly colors. Doug Dix told me that about a year old (or 7-9" they should at least be starting to show belly colors if they are male.
