Using heat tape

I just got some heat tape in. I don't have an immediate need for it but I wanted to be prepared.

What's the easiest way to attach heat tape to a cord?

Best way to attach it to glass?

How hot does heat tape get?

Any problems associated with heat tape? I'm guessing it can't get wet.
