Question about desert iguanas????????

Hayblinkin Apr 20, 2004 08:08 PM

You remember the picture of my Desert iguana Holly that I posted a little while ago? Well she has recently acquired a new little man friend. I had him quarentined for 3 weeks and I finally introduced him to her. I thought she was gonna kick his a#$ at first. She wacked him with her tail and blew herself up and blew out her dewlap. He did pushups and head shakes in return. After a couple of minutes, he would do the push ups and head shakes and she would respond with puffing out her dewlap and lifting her tail a bit, but she didn't wack him again. Then 2 seconds later they were calm and laying next to each other. Do you think this is a mating ritual. Now, a day later, they are inseperable and she doesn't do any of this anymore although on occasion he still does the push ups. He is the one on the right. His name is Silvio.

I use to have 2 leopard geckos that had a couple of batches of eggs. I still have one of the girls from one of the batches...she is 10 years old now!!!

Are you sure its a he? Is a man friend? Have you had him probed, (sexed?) I have a nearly two year old DI who gets agressive, even bite some of the others. He will puff up do push ups and approach one of my other three DI's. Each one of their reactions is different. My adult ignores him, sometimes run off, he is another male and larger than the agressor. I have two young ones not sure their sex yet. One will run away, and the other will puff up come up to him and nuge him on the side then crawl under him. This one is under a year old. Not sexually mature yet. DI's are not sexually mature till after 2 to 3 years old. I think in some cases it can be territorial. But if you know their sexes the chances are good that it could be more. I have found on the internet instructions on breeding, hatching the young, and making a incubator. I will see if I can find it. John Styner who sometimes posts on this forum has had experience breeding DI's. I plan to try it in the near future. Perhaps next year! Good Luck! Bill.

this ritual anyymore...if anything it happens once a day..but they do this and then proceed to lay right next to each other if not touching each other...I am pretty sure they are male and female...the vet said she wis female and he hasnt been to see the vet, but he has a different look underneath his tail...he has more pronounced pores and a bit more of a bulge. thanks for the info...So your males can coexist together??? I thought they couldnt.
