turtle problem??? bugs!

appreciate any insight anyone can provide or to suggest another forum where I could post this question

I have a 20 year old florida cooter, she resides in a 120 gallon aquarium, as she has for most of her life. In the past week or so there have accumulated a BUNCH of gnat-like (teeny tiny) bugs that are congregating between the water's surface and the aquarium lid...what's going on here? I just sucked several hundred of them up with the vacuum cleaner! but wondering why they're present in the first place!!!

THANKS

another comment - am in northern california now - if I was still in Florida (the land of bugs!) I would be less surprised...they just don't HAVE bugs out here! (well, hardly)
