incubation question. need some advice

andydy464 Apr 20, 2004 11:14 PM

to start, my wc easter box laid 4 eggs in her cave the other night. she was wc last summer and i took her in for the winter where it was warm.
well..one of my questions is how likely will these eggs she laid hatch? 2 are sort of caved in on the tops but not cracked or anything and they are slimy. i didnt roll them at all or anything. i put them in a tubberware with spagnum moss and keep it moist and warm. is there something better i should be using? what kind of heating do you use to keep the eggs warm?

i hope they hatch, i never saw anything like this before.

Get some Vermiculite, at a gardenstore, mix 1 part water 1 part vermiculite. Do not turn them, cover the eggs half-way. Keep them at about 85? I think, I haven't incubated eggs in a while.

Yes, keep the container warm, mist to keep moist, but do not mist the eggs. Also, when hatching time comes near,(forgot how many days), then mist the egg slightly, with me the baby popped out then right before my eyes!!

incubate about 75-80, at 85 your more likely to have deformalities, mist every other day to keep it moist, incubation lasts for about 2 months, hatching can take a couple days.
good luck

should the eggs change color at? i of them hasnt changed at all and is still all white but 2 others have light brown splotchs scattered around on them and the forth one is mostly a very light shade of brown with a white top. does that mean they are dead?

I usually wait until they are black and dented in before I throw them out. Sometimes the funkiest looking eggs end up being good!

Sometimes they do change colors. Depending which color they turn it is called banding. It is a way to tell if they are fertile or not. He is a pic of wood turtle eggs turning color. (they are fertile) Pic is from my www.turtleforum.com Here is the pic.
