is this normal? / egg update

katieh Apr 21, 2004 01:39 AM

so here's whats going on with my first eggs

they're stuck to a paper towell that I can't get them off of, and buried halfway in vermiculite in the incubator

The lower parts are turning a faint grey

Is this mould or just from them being wet?

Also, they've firmed up a great deal since i removed them from the cage.. they were really squishy then, and now they're a lot harder

is this good?

Thanks
Katie

Firming up and becoming harder then when they were laid is a very good sign of fertility, as for the slight discoloring, i'd say it was normal, and from the moisture, you could try getting some of the water out of the vermiculite, the only times you have to worry is when the eggs molds, smells really bad, and completely caves in, i'd say your eggs were fine.
how long have they been incubations? and at what temps?

They've been in the incubator 6 days

I'm having trouble keeping the temperature constant, but I've been trying to keep it around 80.. it fluxuates from about 79.5 to 81
