I can't sleep at the moment, so I thought I'd let everyone know how our Geckos are doing.
Last week we picked up two large natural-finished 'granite' tiles from the local DYI store, for our AFT and Leo. They were perfectly sized for the two tanks and had a snug fit.
Cost $1.99 per tile.
We've got the tiles placed on the basking side of the tanks...and holds the heat from the over head heat lamp really, really well. The rest of the tank floor is covered in 'Natural' non-bleached brown paper towel.
It took Vidocq, the AFT, a few days to adjust to the change, but is now belly basking like a pro. Serendipity, the leo, took to it right away and loves it...she spends a good part of her day-time napping in leo la-la-land with a warm belly. The basking spot of the tile reads between 87 at 7am and around 90-91 by 5pm. Which is perfect. The added plus about the tile is that both geckos have the terracotta hides set on the tile. The hides themselves soak up heat and with the tile-- it's all nice and cozy. Warm, but not hot. The non-basking parts of the tile read between 82-85 still warm enough to find a cooler spot.
