My male pastel boa has cloudy eye?

HomesickAggie Apr 21, 2004 07:07 AM

Hi. I noticed yesterday that my male pastel's eye was clouded over. I figured he was going into shed but then I saw his other eye and it's still clear. I took him out and looked, his right eye has a small "dent" in it and is half cloudy. I'm thinking he might have pushed it against something, has some fluid in there and it will clear up when he actually does shed? I had a baby copperhead with the same condition a couple years ago and that's what happened with him. Any opinions or comments are appreciated though. I just got him 4 days ago and it kind of worries me. Thanks alot in advance.

I can't say for sure, but the 'dent' in the eye could be due to dehydration. What is the enclosure's humidity level? If this is due to low humidity, then soak him/her in luke warm water.
Good luck,
Eric

A "dent" in the eye usually means your snake has a stuck eye cap left over from its last shed.

If you still have the previous shed skin, look through it for both eye caps. More than likely you'll be missing one.

If it is a stuck eye cap... it needs to come off. Up the humidity by misting your snake and the cage a few times daily. Also, some recommend this, but I have never tried it... put a very small dab of Neosporin directly on the affected eye with the tip of your finger. Might want to get a second opinion before trying that one though...??

That's what I was looking for. If someone thought the same thing.
