Here are a couple of pictures of our first snake

Hello all

I have been lurking here for a couple of months now. Over the winter, my boys (ages 7.5 and 10) and I decided that we were going to catch a garter snake in the spring, so I immediately searched for an internet forum where I could learn everything I needed to know (and then some). About a week ago, we caught this garter at my brother's place. It appears to have had some damage to one eye. When first caught, the eye was very red, but it seems to be healing, and hopefully, after it sheds it will look normal again. Over the past week, we set up his cage and supplied him with guppies and goldfish, as well as worms. He readily accepted the worms. As far as we can tell, he has never been able to catch any of the fish in the bowl, even though we have watched him try many times. He apparently is not much of a fisherman Anyway, the day before yesterday, I introduced him to a small fuzzy that I had rubbed against a nightcrawler. I had to wiggle the fuzzy around a bit with a pair of hemostats, but after a couple of flicks of his tongue he grabbed it and gulped it down.

The snake is about 15" or so. How old do you think it is? How often should I give it a fuzzy?

I would feed him a fuzzie about once a week!
Beautiful Snake

Thanks

I think these are pretty small fuzzies. They are just barely not pinkies Anyway, there was no visible lump the next day. I was thinking of giving it another one today. Also we have not handled it yet so I am not sure if it is male or female.

Thanks for the reply,
Travis
