Trimorphodon eggs laid....

Yasser Apr 21, 2004 10:05 AM

One of our female Sonoran Lyres laid today. And I managed to stumble in on her doing so with my camera in hand. For their size, these guys lay big clutches of small eggs. The babies are around 3.5-4 grams...about the size of a very runty corn snake hatchling.
Hope ya like the pic!

She laid a clutch of 17 eggs and all are fertile. Last year she laid 14 but a few were infertile so I guess we are only getting better!

I'm waiting on my FWC female, but don't think that my male pushed the right buttons on her, because she's a couple of weeks out from her approximate due date, and she hasn't put much weight on, but I'm still waiting to see. Congrats on the Lyres, they're cool snakes. How are they are far as breeding goes? I've been thinking about getting some for a while now, but my other projects, up to this point, have had priority. I don't see them around much, but would love to get a chance to work with them. How do you keep yours?

We have been rasing up a group of WC juvies for a few years and last year was the first year we got eggs. They seem pretty easy to breed as long as you have specimens that feed well and consistently on mice. We keep them much like a corn snake really, perhaps a bit drier. But raising the babies will require much use of scenting techniques with native lizard species such as Banded Geckos and Sceloporus lizards. These guys are like miniature desert Boiga without the worry of what their venom may do. I have been bitten many times by them with no effect in any way.
I must say though, I was initially impressed with the size of their fangs.

I have been putting mine together but no sign of success yet. Looking forward to baby pics!
