Tokay Breeding

Lizard-lady Apr 21, 2004 10:20 AM

I have 1.3 Tokays set aside for breeding. I have not noticed any mating unless it's very late at night when I'm asleep. I have 2 W.C. females that are 14 in. long each and the other female and male about 11 in. Are the WC females too big for the male? The male seems to only hang around the smaller female he came with. Shouldn't I be seeing eggs by now?

when they mate it is very quick so I wouldn't be surprised if you didnt see it. When females are gravid you will see her get very fat around her belly area. Its hard to see eggs from underneath them. Be sure if you dont already to put a dish with calcium in it into their home. If shes gravid she will need extra to produce the eggs.

Hi Dakman,

Thank you for answering my post. Yes, I do have a dish of calcium in their cage. I talked to you before and you said to do that. Should I be feeding them more often? I usually feed them 4 times a week. I feed them atleast 30 crickets or 40 waxworms.

your feeding schedule sounds fine. During their gravid period I like to feed pinkies every couple weeks to supplement their regular diet. One right after they lay eggs really helps them recover well. Not sure if you ever tried them or even want to but they should be live if so. Most Tokays will accept them but some don't. heres a pic of a very gravid female. good luck
