Tank set-up for multiple Uros

Cory21 Apr 21, 2004 05:58 PM

Ok, so I have a new young mali, and a female (roughly 3yr old) Orange Benti. Below is a picture of how the tank is now (72gal).

The Benti sleeps in the cave under the basking rock every night. Underneathe the wood is also a cave. How should I set up the tank so that both can live together? I know it might not work out, but I'm hoping it does *fingers crossed*. I read (on deerfarms I think?) that is best to introduce a smaller Uro, because the larger one is less likely to pick on it...

Any suggestions? Should I add a few more basking rocks so that they don't compete for the one? Two separated food dishes?

Any input is appreciated,
Thank you,
Cory

multiple Uros need multiple premiums. premium basking spots, premium hide spots, premium hang outs, premium food access, etc. competition and domination creates stress.

I can specifically remember a local reptile shop that has all the setups basically setup for one animal, but he houses multiple animals, and it hasn't been working for him (meaning, his reptiles aren't generally very happy, and often not too healthy). I made the mistake of buying my bearded dragon there (1.5 years ago), which was my first lizard. HUGE mistake. I just got back from a vet visit. Still battling parasites.

...Basically, right now your setup is very good for one uro (assuming the hidespots are low enough and "comfy" enough), so just multiply basically everything by two. I would suggest having two basking lamps. Put them both on the same end of the tank, but have one pointing at one basking spot, and another pointing at another basking spot. that makes it easy to control temperatures better, and still allows for a good gradient.

Good luck.
