Kim and other repti-aid users

I may have asked this before but do not recall...can I make up a small batch (dropper full or so)of repti-aid and keep it in the fridge for a few days? Sometimes she will eat it and others not and I hate to waste it. Of course I would warm it up for her first.

thanks

Hi Lele,

I make up each batch of repta-aid as I use it.
I came to this decision because my daughter made up a larger than usual amount one time. We decided to keep it in the fridge, and give it to him at his next feeding.
When I went to feed it to him the next time, within 36 hours, I noticed it had taken on a kind of fishy smell. I don't eat fish, so I know it wasn't flavour/odour transfer.
I thought I would heat it anyway, and see how it smelled then. When I heated it, it kind of puffed up, and became sort of mealy looking. It certainly wasn't hot...just warm, and that fishy smell was still there.

At that point, I decided to pitch the lot of it, and start fresh. From that point on, I've never made up more than what I can use, and if there is any left over, I wash it down the drain.

Maybe it's because Zoe and I have been doing it this way for so long, but to feed him takes a minimal amount of time. From start to finish, including the time it takes to mix up his food, it's less than 15 minutes.
Now, with my skink...whose food I have to wash, and chop every single time...I'd LOVE to be able to make up her food in batches. It would be so much more convenient. But, guilt gets the best of me, and I feel it's better for her to have it chopped up fresh at each feeding. So, I carry on...washing and chopping...washing and chopping....

Good luck to you and little Luna.

well, it's a little of both. it is used ONLY when a cham is not eating on its own and needs to be "force fed" (we don't really FORCE them ). Luna is not eating on her won due to being gravid so i am giving her some every couple days so she gets some nutrients. Kim uses it for Zoe b/c he cannot eat on his own.

here's a link for info.

Hi Kim,

thanks for your experience! I understand the guilt thing about fresh food, washing, buying organic, etc. My crickets are the best fed in town!! LOL!

I know there is egg in the repti-aid so that had me a little concerned. I'll just make it fresh - a small price to pay to get some nutrition into Luna! I hope that after she lays she gets her appetite back as she has a veritable smorgasbord awaiting her! I have crix, mealies (2 sizes), roaches, supers, butters, waxworms, silkies...I spend as much time on them as I do her! LOL!!
