My Snow Giant Female is having a problem.

HalosExotics Apr 21, 2004 07:23 PM

Well, I finally hit a problem I have never had before! lol
My girl Lily is almost 2 year old, she started breeding in January and has laid 5 clutches each ranging from 31-44 eggs so far. Had done very well until just a day or so ago. The male was very, VERY aggressive with his breeding attemps and didn't leave her alone while I was at work. She has stopped eating, even though they are now seperated (they are normally housed seperate anyway, but I had kept them together for the day so he could have a few chances to mate), is unactive, however is holding her head up and has bright, clear eyes, and is alert. I am just worried about her not eating, and that her last two stools have been almost completely urates and not full poops, I gave her a bath today and she had been eating her salad up until a day or so ago so she is hydrated. She also seems to have regurgitated her last few crickets, I am not sure, but its not poo, and I don't think the crickets are just dead. She obviously has lost weight from breeding, but had maintained decent weight and fat stores behind the arms. I am wondering if she is just stressed from her encounter with the male or if I should be concerned for her health. Thanks a lot guys!

Phil

No, she is not eating, that is my main worry. She doesn't have runny stools, just mostly urates, the white material. And no, she doesn't have calcium deficiency or egg binding, she laid the last clutch 1 week ago.

Well, her normal diet is pretty hefty, she does eat a lot, seeing as she is large, 22.5 inches and around 670 grams at the moment, she ususally does eat treats, this is why I am concerned, she never used to refuse any mealworms, now she doesn't even look at them. I could be overeacting though, I have a habit of doing so.

Try some rep cal pellets saturate with water. them add some extra vitamins calcium, and multi vitamins to it. then but in blender make paste then mix with fruit baby food and try to feed her with a dropper. that will give her nutrient and may start the ball rolling.

That sounds like a good idea, but I am going to wait for another two days just in case it is just the stress. She did this once before after her first clutch so I could be overreacting a bit. Thanks

Keep us informed this problem is something some one else may run into in the future.
