Female Chondro [mom] not doing well

joseph02 Apr 21, 2004 08:13 PM

I have a cb 4 year old female that layed 13 eggs on 2/11/04, she is very small and not recovering from gestation. Her status now is; she has regurged 2 meals in the last two months with the last rat pup three weeks ago. I tried her on a hopper mouse last, she refused. She looks milky like she is in a shed cycle but she has not changed in appearance in 3 weeks. I am keeping her warm and very humid. Her cage is 93 on the hot end 83 cool end and she is choosing 93. She is not showing signs of respritory problems.
Oh, she did not maturnally incubate her eggs.

I welcome any and all suggestions

Thanks Tony

First I would say lower the temps. If she is feeling ill, and sitting on the hot side, it could just be that she doesn't have the strenght to move to the cool side. High heat is not good for chondros. I'd recommend giving her a hot spot of 86 and a cool side of about 76-78.

Have you checked to see if she laid ALL of her eggs? Retained eggs will rot if not removed. How much did she weigh before breeding?

The high temps could be causing her to regurge.

The female shed last night finally. That was a three week shed cycle. I lowered her hot end to 88 and I'll try her on a hopper mouse this weekend.
Thanks for you help Brandon
