Hard Boiled Egg? Help!?

SpikeNSquirt Apr 21, 2004 10:19 PM

Ok here goes....
My albino female laid her first clutch of eggs last monday.(10 days ago) Tonight one of them was moldy. I Removed it from the vermiculite in the deli cup, and it was moldy all over. (hairy looking) I have read that infertile eggs will mold in 7-10 days. I decided to cut open the egg to examine its contents, and it looked like it was hard boiled. The entire contents were a solid greyish white rubbery gel, not unlike a hard boiled egg. There was no yolk that I could see, and no color at all. I am assuming that this egg was indeed infertile. But why would it be hard boiled. The Hovabator thermometer is a constant 88 degrees, and the vermiculite was moist but not wet. What is going on??? I still have one egg left, and it is showing no signs of mold.
(Mom is the albino, the normal is gravid and ready to drop any day)

I've seen this too. I think that it must have something to do with how the mold "digests" the egg contents.
