Aggressive Juvenile! Need Help!

reptilicus81 Apr 22, 2004 02:05 AM

We just purchased a little 120 g female about a month ago....she was a perfect little angel at the store and just as sweet when we got her home. By the end of the week she totally changed demenor. She now strikes repeatedly if anything or anyone walks by or tries to enter the cage...she also wags her tail. If we pull her out of the cage she will continue to wag her tail and lunge. She is well fed. What can we do? We have 4 other balls and none of them have ever acted like this. Will she grow out of this? What can we do! She is a beauty, but neither me nor my boyfriend want to deal with an aggressive snake!

Give her some time. The average snake needs at least a week to get settled in..and we all know Ball Pythons are not average snakes by no means. Let her relax and get climitized to new home. Try getting a regular feeding schedule in before worring about handling.I know its hard to resist you want to see her and show her off.In time let her get used to you and you to it slowly. Usually they calm down.

We have had her for almost a month now. She has only been out of the cage less then a handful of times. When we walk by the cage, or go to feed her, she strikes repeatedly. We have tried everything you have mentioned but it seems like it is just getting worse.

What are you using as hides. Another thing I have tried in the past but only with babies is I get a small childrens
t-shirt and make sure it has my scent on it. I leave it in the cage and usually they use it as a hide and associate my scent with security. Now I have no proof this works and have not used it on BP's but I have with all other snakes and have never had an agressive one. Like Db posted I think it is just stressed it might take some time since it's a juvie. I dont remember if you said was it wildcaught or captive bred? that would make a big difference as well.

Hey, Ill try out the tshirt thing, sounds like a good plan. She is a CB baby. We have two hides in the tank, a humidity box, and cork bark. She alternates between the two.

Thanks for the advice. o)

leave it alone for a month, with little to no handling, make sure it has adequate hiding places, it just sounds stressed out.
