Sins my change in dirt non of my uromastyx have dig, and even when they sleep under flat stone they don’t try to borrow, also theirs plenty of hiding places yet they all hide together. Do you think these behaviours are normal?

Also I who’d like to express my appreciation to all of you, iv learned so much these past few days from reading your post, this feeds my drive and makes keeping these lizards so much more enjoyable, Thanks!

I don't use dirt, so can't give input on the question.

But here's an additional thought/question to people who keep both Malis and Geyri. I've noticed the Malis dig WAY more than the Saharans. Is this true all around? Is it a species thing from their different natural habitats? (Like Ornates being climbers more than other species)

Just curious!

El Toro,
The observations you listed mimic my own observations. I have two mali's and one geyri. The malis burrow and burrow and burrow. The geyri, on the other hand, does not display this behaviour at all. He is quite content to make a few rounds of his enclosure, munch for a good while, and head for the basking spot. I believe they act this way due to the environment/locale they originate from. Just my two cents.

Best regards,

Carson

Same here...well, I don't have geyris and I don't use dirt, BUT, I've noticed that my Malis dig and dig, have hollowed out numerous hidey holes under rocks and use their artificial burrows extensively...My ornates seem more agile and move more quickly than the malis; they dig only enough to enter and exit their hides, otherwise they're pretty much out in the open, basking and climbing rocks and branches...The malis will spend hours hanging out in the entrance to their burrows watching what's going on; the ornates are out and about, actively checking things out...It sounds like the geyris may be somewhere in between these two extremes...

I'd say it would be important to just basically watch them and make sure they're still active, happy lizards. Make sure they aren't losing any weight or anything too. The way I see it, those are the most important things to worry about. If they aren't burrowing but they don't show any signs that it is having a negative impact, then it doesn't really matter.

Another consideration: Maybe your soil mix is off a little.
