Slow or laziness?!?! LLOONNGGG

Jbuggs20 Apr 22, 2004 09:00 AM

OK I dont get it I have 2 gravid females together in a 20long.. Ok about 4days ago I took out one of the 2 hides and put in a semi shallow bowl with moistened spagnum moss in it.. Because the date was telling me it was getting near for a second clutch for one of the females. Sure enough next morning the spagnum moss was all over the tank and I had 2 eggs in the bottom of the bowl. Now my other female is coming up due But she acts like she cant stand the "laybox" doesnt want nothin to do with it. After cleaning the tank I put the bowl in the tank and put her in the bowl... She immediatly got out and right into the hide she went. Then later on in the day I noticed the other female was now laying in the bowl "I guess she thought her eggs were still there" Now this is the smaller of the 2 females but she's twice as aggresive as the bigger female... Could it be she intimated my bigger female so she wont go into the bowl? Or is she just lazy and doesnt feel like climbing into the bowl? The bowl is about 3 inchs tall. Or when it gets time to lay she will then get the urge to go into the bowl? How they both layed the eggs last time is I took one of the hides out on the cooler side and ontop of the paper towl A small pile of spagnum moss on the one side against the wall and it was fine. The reason I decided to search for alternative means is because for 1 there was nothing realy holding the moss in place so every chance they get they would spread it threw the whole tank and id always have to go gently tunneling threw it. But with the bowl I can tell if they have been in there digging because when I put the moss in I moisten then flattened it down to the bottom then add alittle more water and flatten some more. So I can tell when its been tampered with fairly easy... How does everyone else have thier geckos egg laying chambers set up??? I was thinking about cutting a groove into the side of the bowl about a inch from the bottom to the top so theres a path but im thinking that will cause them spreading it around.... Only time the other female tossed up the lay box was when she layed.. Any info or tips would be great. Just because the 1st clutch was 1 egg does that mean every clutch from her this season will be 1 egg or is it just the 1st set will be one? I know its alot of question but I got a real good sleep last night so my mind is running a mile a minute.. Any info/tips would be greatttt!

I use some of the larger rummermaid tuperware containers and just cut a hole in the top. It is also pretty clear so you can see the eggs on the bottom if they are buried.
