PLEASE READ: Sick babies leo's

kstrope01 Apr 22, 2004 09:14 AM

I rescued some very skinny babies from a vendor that had about 50 babies in a 10 gallon tank at a show (what a monster!!!). So I bought these little guys that were about a week old (3 weeks ago). They were very dehydrated when I got them home as they didnt stop drinking. They seemed to eat a couple mealies and pinheads.

Last week I noticed one of them wasnt eating at all and it was getting very skinny. I started it on Jump Start and continued that for a couple more days while dripping water into its mouth (it didnt make it). Its waste products were very runny and were light tan in color. I noticed this tan colored waste before I started it on Jump Start.

I now have two more that are passing this tan colored runs and are not eating. They arent quite as skinny as the last one that was sick. I have already started them on Jump Start. I have small crickets and mealies that I provide/change daily along with a new papertowl. I dont keep the crickets in all the time to minimize stress.

Has anyone seen this problem and/or had any success in treating this? Anything would be a help, thanks in advance.

Let me elaberate a little. The only thing I can think of is the vendor put them all in a 10gallon to make the trip to the show easier. NOT SAYING THAT WAS THE PROPER WAY TO TRANSPORT THEM. It's good hearted of you to try to save the geckos life's. But id suggest takeing them to a vet. Because they could not be eating because they have internal diseases that need to be treated. I personally have never had a sick gecko so I dont know anything about Jump Start or anything like that. Just take them to a vet so they can take a fecal sample and give a much better diagnosis then anyone could do online. Good luck and keep us posted. Personally I would have just frowned apon the sick geckos give the vendor my 2 cents and leave it to him. He got your money for sick animals he obviously didnt care to much about. I wouldnt buy a gecko unless it looked 100% healthy and ate in front of me. Unless it was from a well known ESTABLISHED breeder. Just my 2 cents.
