What exactly is this? I have seen a lot of people use it for various parts of building a cage.

its a metal screen but it has bigger holes than regular screen and is stronger. they will have it at your local home depot/lowes.. i use it for the top of my cages it provides vetilation.. and they can climb on it and it wont hurt them.
