New setup and i hate it.......

RedQuake Apr 22, 2004 12:23 PM

I wanted to move my pair of cresteds (Zeus and Ziggy) to a new enclosure, something larger and with more ventilation. So i bought a reptarium and ya know......i absolutely hate it. I set it up beautifully with alot of plants and hiding areas and that part i like. Its the fact that the screen is so dark i can't see inside very well. I've tried putting a light on top but that only serves to increase the temps to much. They are down stairs where natural light does not exist, so its my fault i guess. LOL And i can't move them....house rules, geckos stay in the gecko room hehehe.

I'm pretty sure they love it....being able to hide so well.

I have found a HUGE tank with two screen doors and a screen top that i think would be perfect, just waiting for the funds to come in to buy it. In the mean time does anyone have any suggestions as to how i might be able to use a light without increasing the temps?

Oh and the transfer over from the tank......OMG i was sure Ziggy was going to drop her tail. I stick my hands in there all the time to clean and feed but ya think the day i plan on moving them they'd stay calm.....i swear they knew somehow. Of course i sucked up to Zeus, sticking apricot baby food on my finger for him to lick (This technique didn't work with Ziggy).

Something else i learned the other day.......I had put a pic of a crested gecko on my computer screen as the background. Ziggy took notice almost right away and she didn't appear to happy. I removed the pic (got the plain old black background now) hehe.

Thanks for any help

Is there any reason you can't use a fluorescent fixture for lighting? That shouldn't generate any appreciable heat, and you could have the added benefit of UV if you wanted.

Yep i can use one. I wasn't sure about the heat thing though. Plus i've got the reptarium so full of plants that even with lights its hard to find them hehehe.

Right now i'm debating whether or not to get the square tank with doors at the sides or the corner tank with sliding doors at the front. Both have screen tops but i think the corner tank is larger.
