New baby grayband

Styric Apr 22, 2004 02:52 PM

Just got a new baby grayband who's moved into our 100 gal terrarium. Hopefully things go well as he's a real beauty, looks almost like the one in the thread about the other new baby greyband blairs, but redder.

He seems healthy enough He'd just shed in a full piece (the skin was just being removed from his box).

Any special suggestions? Humidity is 34, temp is 75/85, and there's three different hides: a terracotta pot, a stack of rocks and a cave.

I have two cats, any way to keep them from terrorizing him? I've already adjusted the lid with a large piece of plywood so the brats can't get at him that way. I swear my older male, Needles, is cooking snake broth for dinner

Crap, the grayband got out of a TINY hole where a staple got loose on the lid's screen I hadn't noticed when inspecting it.....
Any way to get him back BEFORE my cats have an early dinner? Trapping/luring/finding etc.

We've tried turning down the temperature in the apartment and putting a heatpad in each room in a dark location but he hasn't shown up on any of them in two days so we had to turn it back up to around 78 to make sure the little guy was okay.... Ripped the apartment apart but he's so tiny he can get into anything.

I had an adult female GB gone for 6 weeks, we finally found her crawling down the kitchen cabinet. I don't know of any tips other than just luck and persistence when it comes to finding your little guy. Good luck

Thanks for the support Our Honduran Milksnake hasn't gotten out once so this is a first... then again he's a year old!

Needles chased something under the fridge so we have a repair guy coming to take the stove, fridge and stereo apart to check for him.

We ripped apart the apartment for the fourth time but again he's so little it looks like he could even have gotten into the wall behind the stove. At least the pipes are warm. We've left out a shallow bowl of water and a pinkie if he wants them, but both are untouched so far. The front door is impossible to get under at least, God bless carpet.

I can't lock the cats in the bathroom for three weeks unfortunately... nobody is willing to catsit and I don't have enough money to kennel for any length of time. I hope he's alright. I'm so worried!!

I'm shocked at how fast and smart that little guy was, it looks like he slithered up the thermometer, to the hygrometer then did a fantasic leap/slither out of the lid.... I think we may change his name from Thanatos to Houdini...

When he's safely back in his terrarium!

My baby grayband got out in December or November. I'm still awaiting his return...it looks grim, but I don't smell death yet.

Co-worker gave me a really good idea.... he hunts herps.

Turn the heat up to around 78 to quicken metabolism, then blend a couple dead skinks in a blender then pour into a coarse spraybottle. Spray it in all likely places and make a path to a dead pinky doused in it, or an actual skink and keep a close eye on it.

It's nasty, but it just might work.... sounds promising in any case.

Useful for bad feeders too if you're desperate.

He's back!!!
Some kids two apartments down found him hunting by the door and told their mother who knocked around asking who had a pet snake

He's back in his now freshly stapled terrarium and just scarfed a pinkie like he was starving. It didn't even have time to hit the ground before he gobbled it.

He looks healthy, shiny and not overly skinny. He just plunked himself in his water bowl for a good long soak.

I'm so happy!!
