Question About Panther Incubation Temperature

herpfinatics Apr 22, 2004 03:25 PM

I would like to know anything and everything about incubating panther eggs. I know I can go to sites and find the best methods and I have. The real reason I'm posting is because I heard it was possible to incubate the eggs at a certain temperature and make the entire clutch females. I know this is possible with some species of reptiles, but it seems weird that this would work for chameleons. She will probably be ready to lay her eggs in about a week.
Email me at jasonking@2by2.net or post. Thanks All.

PS - I also have a female veiled chameleon about to lay her eggs. She is digging around and the eggs are showing through her. She is enormous. If you have any advice about this I would love it.

For the veiled eggs, I weigh my perlite & water to an even 50%/50% ratio. I keep them at 84* & they hatch in about 180 days.
I no longer breed panthers, but when I did, I also had trouble finding the correct info on incubation. I kept some eggs at 76* and they hatched in about 9 months. I kept others at 80*(which some people say is way too hot), and they hatched in 6 months with no ill effects. My babies that were incubated at the higher temp seemed to grow a lot faster than the ones that hatched at 76*.
Don't go by what I say for your own use. I'm just sharing my own personal experience.
Hope this info helps,
Cricket

And no, incubation temps don't effect the male/female determination. Not that I've ever known of.

Thank you very much for responding. I thought it was odd how no one was answering for so long. I figured the temperature wouldn't effect the the sex of the eggs. If anyone knows otherwise please tell me so. This information isn't just for me, but for all forum viewers. Peace All

Oh and my veiled still hasnt laid her eggs, but she is probably one of the largest females ever. I'll try to take a picture. When she walks/climbs her back legs have trouble finding their ways past her huge stomach.
