what you guys think of joel roberts theory on the lighting bringing out there colour?????he says more lighting takes away the rings on belly.and dark colour?????as this can occur even if temps are correct...or the theory if your lizard has wood under basking spot he dont digest food aswell as when its a rock..as the rock holds heat and then helps digest food as there bellys on rock????? i dont mean hot rock i mean a normal rock positioned far enough away that it cant burn him or her????????i am quite intrested in the light theory and am going to try puting in a few small halogen lights that dont give off heat..just too see if it brightens up my 2 that are a very dull grey to black colour..

Bright light absolutely increases color, feeding, alertness, and activity. If the dragon has circles/patters on it's belly, it is not showing full potential. Even if they aren't, they still may not be.

Bright light is very important for dragons.

Well, we use a dual strip flourescent light that reaches from one end of the tank to the other. One houses a UVB bulb, the other houses just a normal bright white flourescent bulb. It gives off some heat (the ballast) but not the light itself. I would do that if you can.. it works the best.

As long as the warm end is proper basking spots, the cool end can be 80 - 85... that should be okay as long as the majority of the tank is warm... ambient temps that is.

Good luck.. the extra light will definitley help them perk and color up some.
