When you try feeding do you feed in the cage or do you feed in another cage ? I use a small rubbermaid container and leave them alone for 20 min. I come back in the room and they all have eaten. I have 8 that I feed. Here is a pic of how I do it. I'm not saying I do it the right way but it always works for me.

Do you have any qualms about feeding your hots live? I would think it might be less of a problem with strike and release hots but I might have some reservations about strike and hold hots since theres more time and oppurtunity for damage done to the snake...

This isnt an attack, I just wondered about your postion

I cant believe someone would actually have to ask that question..... Did you do any research on keeping gaboon vipers???? Feed it a mouse that is around the same size as its head..... Or a mouse that is as big as the widest part of the snakes body..... Why dont you do yourself and the snake a favor and sell it to someone who knows how to keep them......

Also a healthy gaboon will eat anytime, live or dead..... out of my last bunch of 27 all 27 ate as soon as I offered food..... And they all took prekilled at their first meal..... I just shook the dead mouse infront of them..... If you gaboon aint eating, its sick.... Live food is fine on occation with gaboons..... There realy is not enough time for the mouse or rat to bite the snake..... The venom of a gaboon works pretty fast and the fangs are so long that it usually winds up puncturing the heart and or lungs..... Gaboons do not always hold onto their prey..... They will release it if it is too big or if it is struggling hard.....

though I won't voice it so strongly If you have to ask what to feed your gaboon viper, you don't have enough experience to keep it. Do yourself a favor and sell it before it kills you. Or, and I'm afraid to ask, is it a venomoid? If so, shame on you for buying it, and DO NOT try and feed it live food. And what Gregg said is correct, if it's not eating, it's stressed or sick. Gaboons have incredible feeding responses, so this should be of concern.
